Square and Pentagon maths groups have been learning about what numbers can add together to make 10.
Playdough Maths
One of our activities is to make 10 shapes out of play dough.
We then share them onto the two hand shapes on our play dough mat.
Then we wrote the number sentences on a whiteboard.
Look how many different ways we found that you can use to make 10.
Circles group were collecting groups of beads and then threading sets of that number onto a string.
Soni was making sets of 3 and Dan was making sets of 5.
Jerome was making sets of 2.
Pentagon group used dominoes to write the number sentences from using and counting the dots. They are trying to keep the big number in their head and 'count on' the smaller number.
We could write it with words like we did above or we could use just numbers
4 + 3 = 7 or 6 + 1 = 7
Lilly and Charodnae wrote lots and lots of number sentences using the dominoes. |
Leitofiga made a stair from 1 to 10 with blocks.
Here is a house that Theodora and Lily D made using rectangle, circles and squares.
Another group found this game on the iPad. We had to match shapes and played a games of Shape Bingo.
the shape game on the ipad looks like fun to play.
